Inspired by the great makers, I make beautiful, complex, sophisticated bows using a variety of materials including traditional and non-traditional materials. Most of my bows are made out of pernambuco, ebony, and silver. However, I also use a variety of alternative materials such as katalox and padauk as alternatives to Pernambuco. I also utilize snakewood, thermalwood, and sonowood as ebony alternatives, as well as Tip Armor, silver and imitation ivory resin for headplates.
In addition to making bows, I also rehair bows and perform other bow maintenance services. My schedule is very limited for client services as the majority of my time is dedicated to making bows. However, please feel free to reach out if you are interested in my services.
I make bows because I love them and am fascinated by them. I love how unique each bow is and how a bow can help a player not only bring a piece of music to life but also bring out the different nuances of a particular piece of music.
When making, my focus is to accentuate the beauty of the materials and the graceful lines of the bow to ensure that it is as pleasing to the eye as it is an extension of the player’s arm. I want nothing more than for a player to love their bow and to have an exceptional playing experience.
I have a limited supply of bows on hand in my studio. You can also find them at fine shops such as McLaughlin Violins in Chicago, Robertsons & Son’s in Albuquerque, Sam’s Strings in the Houston area, and Guarneri House in Grand Rapids. But, I'm always making more so please feel free to reach out to me.
"I'm really enjoying my new Cameron Robertson bow. He spent the time getting to know the qualities I like in a bow and made one that matches my playing style. Not to mention, it's beautiful!"
~ Jun-Ching Lin - Assistant Concert Master - Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; Concert Master – Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra
“I have enjoyed working with Cameron for several years. He is always welcoming and kind- patiently taking time to discuss my concerns. His bow rehairs have been very consistent (in quality and length) and he has always treated my equipment with great care and professionalism. Cameron is also a fine bow maker, producing bows that pull a strong, beautiful sound”.
~ Josh Holritz - Concertmaster, Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and Huntsville Symphony Orchestra
“Now that I've had some time to practice with it on a variety of repertoire, I'm loving it even more. It feels so great in my hand and gives me joy and satisfaction. Thanks so much for your wonderful work”.
~ Marilyn Pipkin
“Cameron is extremely skilled, wonderful to work with, and the first person I call when I need help with anything violin and bow equipment related. Cameron's bow rehairs in particular are truly satisfying to play on, and they are the most durable rehairs I've ever had. The job is always well done. We are lucky to have an expert in the Atlanta area”.
~ Alice Hong – International Award-Winning Violinist and Composer
“Cameron's work is truly satisfying and dedicated! I purchased a bow from his shop, and the quality exceeded its price, making it a steal. Shortly after, I won the principal cello audition using that very bow. I highly recommend Cameron's craftsmanship – it's a testament to both skill and excellence!”
~ Egor Antonenko - Principal Cellist of the Naples Philharmonic
“Because of you, my violins are responding extremely close to how they once played and felt for me. I feel great before and after practicing or playing period. I would also like to take a moment to thank you for the rehair of three of my bows and of course, repairing one of my bows I recently purchased from another maker. Everything feels great and I so appreciate you. You are very passionate about your work which speaks volume.”
~ Perry Westmoreland - Columbus, Augusta, Carolton and Rome Symphonies
